Yakushima Island is located in the very south west of Japan, about one hour's sail from the Japanese mainland further down south. We spent 1 week there in September 2016. Ykushima lies in the subtropical climate belt. Lots of rain is found there almost all year round; much tropical rainforest therefore can be found on this island.

Yakushima has sunny sandy beaches with warm sea water to swim in and also giant granite rocks and beautiful hiking trails. Yakushima is a fairly quiet place and a relief for Japan travellers who spent a couple of days in busy huge Japanese cities (such as Tokyo) and, after that, just want to relax a bit in the nature. Enjoy the pictures!
